THE WHALE
Whales live only in water, and tend to stay where it is sea is warmer. This is why you will find them along the coasts during the winter months . They migrate to other regions so they can keep their body temperatures high enough.
Blue whales may have can grow up to 31 meters long. This is about the length of a basketball court. Blue whales can weigh as much as 146 metric tonnes, however Fin whales are smaller weighing up to 69 metric tonnes and reaching only 27 metres.
The main diet for a whale is small shrimp/prawns. They can consume around eight tonnes of shrimp in one feeding session.
Whales communicate by using loud high pitched sounds. One of the loudest animal sounds ever recorded was by a blue whale. Scientists believe that whales may use these sounds to communicate with each other over hundreds of kilometres. They use this type of communication when they are migrating.
